September 1 – Marcus Heinrich KRUSE

Looking on my family tree for today, we meet Marcus Heinrich KRUSE, a cottager and day laborer from the grandduchy Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

He was born on September 1, 1778 in Botelsdorf as the son of Hans Joachim KRUSE and Catharina Magdalena née PARBS.

I didn’t find out yet when he married Magdalene Elisabeth RUNGE but between 1806 and 1818 I have four children documented for them, which were all born in Botelsdorf:

  • Johann Heinrich (born abt. December 1806 / died January 16, 1869)
  • Hans Heinrich (born abt. August 1809 / died February 16, 1853)
  • Joachim (born February 2, 1814)
  • Katharina Elisabeth (born abt. January 1818 / died December 6, 1907)

The 1819 census of Mecklenburg-Schwerin shows the family still living in Botelsdorf.

When his daughter Katharina married in 1843, he was stated as cottager living in Sievershagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

Marcus died on November 16, 1851 of gout in Sievershagen and got laid to rest on November 21, 1851 in Diedrichshagen.

October 31 – Maria Dorothea Elisabeth Kruse

Blessed Samhain everyone!!

This is not only the day that Martin Luther posted his 95 Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg in 1517.

October 31 also marks the day that the Lincoln Highway has been dedicated as the first automobile highway across the United States in 1913.

And if we go to the year 1846, we celebrate the birthday of Maria Dorothea Elisabeth KRUSE. She was born on October 31, 1846 as the fourth of eleven children into the marriage of the farmer Johann Heinrich KRUSE and his wife Maria Dorothea Elisabeth née FRAHM in Upahl, grandduchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

She married the cartwright Johann Joachim Friedrich Heinrich GRÖNING from Upahl on November 8 1872 in Diedrichshagen, the main village of the parish.

Maria and Johann had four children I know of:

  • Johann Joachim Heinrich born October 13, 1873
  • Joachim Johann Wilhelm born abt. December 1875
  • a stillborn daughter born June 11, 1878
  • Hermann Friedrich Heinrich born February 8, 1880

All children have been born in Upahl.

Maria died on October 1, 1920 in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany and got laid to rest on October 6, 1920 on the church cemetary of Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

June 29 – Dorothea Louise Christiane Lenschow

Happy Birthday Go-Mizunoo, 108th Emperor of Japan, born June 29, 1596!

And happy Birthday Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, best known as the author of “The Little Prince“, born on June 29, 1900!

I chose two birthdays as historical dates for today since I have a sad event on my family tree for this day.

We mourn the death of Dorothea Louise Christiane LENSCHOW who died on June 29, 1916 in Grevesmühlen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

Dorothea was born on August 25, 1855 as second of (so far) three known children of Johann Heinrich LENSCHOW, a farmer in Sievershagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany and his wife Katharina Elisabeth née KRUSE.

On June 22, 1883 Dorothea married Hans Heinrich Christian BAUMANN, a tailor from Groß Pravtshagen, now living in Wotenitz, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany – a widow with one daughter just six months old.

So far I didn’t find any children for Dorothea and Hans, but I am sure it is just a matter of time.

May 18 – Anna Catharina Elisabeth Schmidt

Without gaining approval of her former husband and liege, Eleanor of Aquitaine marries the 11 years younger Henry of Plantaneget, Count of Anjou and Duke of the Normandy on May 18, 1152.

The Treaty of Teusina from May 18, 1595 between Sweden and Russia terminates the Russo-Swedish War.

On my family tree we celebrate the birth of my 2nd great grand aunt Anna Catharina Elisabeth SCHMIDT. Anna was born on May 18, 1832 on Tüschenbek Estate, Duchy of Sachsen-Lauenburg, Germany.

She was the oldest of four children born into the marriage of Johann Christian August SCHMIDT and his first wife Catharina Elisabeth SCHNOOR (I’m descending from his second wife). Anna was not only the oldest child but also the only daughter of the couple.

Anna received her baptism on May 27, 1832 in Groß Grönau, Duchy of Sachsen-Lauenburg, Germany.

In the same church she married her husband Johann Joachim Heinrich KRUSE (a.k.a. GRUBE) on October 23, 1853 .

The couple had one son I know of so far. Johann Joachim Heinrich GRUBE (in his entries the KRUSE name is vanished) was born over a year before their marriage on August 7, 1852 on Tüschenbek estate where his father worked as a day labourer. Unfortunately, Johann died of consumption an early infant death on April 20, 1853.

The wedding entry is the last trace I have of Anna.

April 4 – Johannes Heinrich Fritz David Kruse

Alfons Paoli Schwartz is the last German Prisoner of War from WW1 returning home on April 4, 1932 from French Guyana.

Seven years later, April 4, 1937 is the day Ghazi I. King of Iraq died. Since is son Faisal II. is still a minor, his uncle Abd ul-Ilah takes over the regency for him.

On my family tree we meet Johannes Heinrich Fritz David Kruse. He is the brother-in-law of my 1st cousin 3x removed.
Johannes was born on April 4, 1883 in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.
The 1900 census shows him working as a stableman in Upahl.

As you can see from his birth certificate a registrar was so nice again to mark some details on it.

The first entry starting with [ ] states that he registered a last will with the local court in 1947.
The second entry provided me with his exact date and place of death. He died on March 17, 1957 in Upahl, Mecklenburg, East Germany.
To be honest, I have no idea what the third entry is supposed to mean. I thought that the T might mean “Trauung” (marriage) and the Nov-13 would mean November 1913. But I couldn’t find anything regarding this.
What I DID find was a wedding entry with Anna Maria Wihelmine WARNKE from Kastahn for November 5, 1920 in Diedrichshagen.
I couldn’t find any children for the couple so far.
