September 21 – Joachim Christoph Behrens

On September 21, 1964 Malta gains its indepence from Great Britain.

And another independence from Great Britain for this day: It was September 21, 1981 and it was Belize which was known til 1973 as British-Honduras.

And on my family tree?

September 21, 1828 is the birthday of Joachim Christoph BEHRENS, who became the husband of my 3rd great great aunt.

He was born in Warnow in the grandduchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany into the marriage of the small farmer Hans Heinrich BEHRENS and his wife Engel Maria BUMANN.

It looks like Hans Heinrich handed over the small farm to  his son. When Joachim married my 3rd great great aunt Maria Elisabeth FREYTAG on July 25, 1856 in Diedrichshagen, he was stated as “small farmer from Warnow”.

Joachim and Maria had two children I know of so far, one son and a daughter:

  • Joachim Johann Heinrich
  • Elisabeth Maria Joachime

The 1900 census states him as being widowed and pensioner living in Warnow.

April 3 – Ernst Johann Joachim Warnke

Bruno Hauptmann who got convicted to a death sentence for the kidnapping and killing of the “Lindbergh Baby” Charles Lindbergh III. gets killed on the electric chair on April 3, 1936. Til today there are doubts regarding his guilt.

On my family tree we meet the stepson of my 2nd cousin 4x removed Joachim Karl Johann HAGEDORN.

Ernst Johann Joachim WARNKE was born on April 3, 1885 in Boienhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany to a single mother – father unknown.

He received his christening on April 26, 1885 in Diedrichshagen.

His mother Wilhelmine Maria Dorothea WARNKE married my cousin on July 24, 1896 in Diedrichshagen.

Out of that marriage Ernst has five more siblings: four brothers and a sister.. the poor girl, the only sister of five brothers!

On April 26, 1899 he got confirmed in Diedrichshagen, soon after that he stepped into the “working life”.

This is the 1900 census record for Ernst. He is living in Grevesmühlen in the meantime, working as a shoemaker apprentice.

“We’re more popular than Jesus now” – The famous statement mady by John Lennon regarding the Beatles in an interview he gave the Evening Standard on March 4, 1966. According to a remark made by a registrar on his birth certificate, Richard died 1971 in Grevesmühlen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

I couldn’t find any information on her death for Berta. Data protection is making it harder for me than researching the old records.
