March 19 – Johann Friedrich Adolph Kalkhorst

Sir Walter Raleigh gets released from the Tower of London following a 13 year imprisonment on March 19, 1616.

Not even in power for one year, Agústin I. Emperor of Mexico resigns on March 19, 1822. He receives a high pension but has to leave the country for good.

And on my family tree we celebrate the birth of he husband of my 3rd great grand aunt Margaretha Sophia KESSIN.

Johann Friedrich Adolph KALKHORST is born on March 19, 1838 in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

His father Hans KALKHORST was a day labourer working in the parish.

Johann followed into the footsteps of his father. At least when it comes to the occupation. In his wedding entry he is stated as “Tagelöhner” (day labourer), too.

He married my 3rd great grand aunt Margaretha Sophia KESSIN on April 12, 1861 in Diedrichshagen.

This is actually one of the few marriages I found where the bride is older than the groom. And not only by some months or a year, but by eleven years!

And that altough Margaretha was the youngest of seven children. She wouldn’t even inherit a lot from her parents.

So far I didn’t find any children for the couple and the wedding is the last trace I have for both of them.
