March 15 – Hans Joachim Heinrich Freytag

Today is the Ides of March. Today in 44 B.C. Julius Caesar got assassinated at the Theatre of the Pompej in Rome. Headed by Marcus Iunius Brutus and Gaius Cassius Longinus abt. 60 people are part of this plot. 20 of them are known by their names today. On the same day the Senate of Rome grants the assassinators their amnesty.

Sofia of Bavaria gets crowned as Queen of Bohemia on March 15, 1400 – eleven years post her wedding. Her husband Wenzel does not take part at the ceremony.

We are not staying this majestic. We are going back to the parish of Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin – back to my paternal line.

The husband of my 2nd great grand aunt Wilhelmine Sophie Auguste FREYTAG is born on March 15, 1848 in Diedrichshagen.

Hans Joachim Heinrich FREYTAG (and yes, they both thad the same birth name) was the oldest son of Johann Heinrich FREYTAG and his wife Anna Maria née SCHUMACHER. Four more children should come.

Hans received his christening in the church of Diedrichshagen on March 19, 1848. The same church he got confirmed in on April 13, 1862.

The 1867 census shows him living with his parents and his four siblings, working as a farmhand on the fatherly farm.

Only 12 years later, on February 21, 1879 he married my 2nd great grand aunt in Diedrichshagen.

The certificate has a remark stating the death date of the bride.

So far I only know of one son for the couple, born in 1880.

Both the 1900 and the 1919 census shows him living as a farmer in Diedrichshagen. Since the 1919 census is household based again (compared to the person based forms for the 1900 census – see the difference about the censuses I use here) I could see that he lived with his wife, his son, daughter-in-law and grandchildren on the family farm.

Hans died on January 12, 1930 and got laid to rest on the church cemetary of Diedrichshagen on January 16, 1930.
