March 11 – August Carl Heinrich Kaben

On March 11, 1990 Lithuania declares its indepence from the Soviet Union. The president of the parliament, Vytautas Landsbergis becomes commissionary head of state.

The first judges of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in Amsterdam gave their oath in a formal ceremony on March 11, 2003.

On my family tree we meet August Carl Heinrich KABEN.

He was born on March 11, 1872 in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany. His father Joachim Heinrich August KABEN was selling stock and cattle. He was married to Maria Sophia Elisabeth Margarethe née MEIER from Groß Trebbow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

August was the firstborn child of the couple. Four more should follow until 1886.

On April 18, 1886 August received his lutheranian confirmation in the church of Diedrichshagen.

The 1900 census states him as being married, living in Diedrichshagen, working as an assistant of a cattle dealer. I guess, he was working for his father, but have no proof of that.

One year before, his daughter Emmi KABEN is born, of her mother I only have the first name “Anna”.

The 1919 census shows him, his wife and his daughter also living in Diedrichshagen.

And that is the last trace I have of him so far. Any KABEN cousins out there?
