March 6 – Carl Johann Heinrich Holst

Parts of the First Fleet with British convicts reaches the Australian Norfolk Island on March 6, 1788.

The Fort Alamo in San Antonio, Texas is conquered by the Mexicans lead by General Antonio López de Santa Anna on March 6, 1836. Almost all of the 200 defenders (among them William Travis, James Bowie and Davy Crocket) who held the Fort for 13 days got killed during the attacks.

Okay, I admit it. My entry for today in my family tree is not so fancy or heroic ;)

We celebrate the birth of the husband of my 2nd cousin 4x removed Dorothea Henriette Catharina REUTER.

Carl Johann Heinrich HOLST was born on March 6, 1854 in Börzow, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

He married Dorothea on September 28, 1888 in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

In this wedding certificate, Carl is stated as “a fee farmer’s son” from Börzow. His father Johann Heinrich HOLST is already deceased.

So far I didn’t find any children for the couple.

Carl died on August 28, 1919 in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany and got laid to rest on September 2, 1919 on the church cemetary of Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

    • that was the best translation I could find for someone not owning the farm he worked and lived on. As long as they paid the fee, it belonged to them. They could even pass it on to their children, if they paid the fee.
