January 5 – Christian Karl Heinrich Hagedorn

On January 5, 1813 Denmark proclaims its national bankruptcy.

And on January 5, 1769 James Watt receives his patent for the steam engine.

On my family tree there is another death to mourn. Christian Karl Heinrich HAGEDORN, the husband of my 1st cousin 5x removes died on January 5, 1907 in Boienhagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany.

His son Karl registered his death the following day with the local authorities.

Christian was born on January 12, 1830 in Boienhagen as the oldest son of Karl HAGEDORN and his wife Katharina Dorothea GREVE.

On December 22, 1854 he married my cousin Anna Katharina Margaretha FRAHM in Diedrichshagen.

The 1867 census shows him living with his wife and five children in his parent’s household. As oldest son he was the heir to the family farm.

Five days after his death Christian got laid to rest on January 10, 1907 in Diedrichshagen.
