January 4 – Katharina Maria Kruse

Great Britain releases Burma into independence on January 4, 1948.

And on January 4, 1950 Israel declares Jerusalem as its capital, violating resolutions of the UNO.

We stay in my “main” parish Diedrichshagen and mourn the death of Katharina Maria KRUSE, the mother-in-law of my 3rd great grand uncle.

Katharina died in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany on January 4, 1881 at 5.30 am. His son Johann registered her death with the local authorities on the same day.

You see that in her death certificate her name is spelled with C instead of a K. I always stick to the spelling in the birth certificate if I have one. In case I don’t have one, I use the spelling on the first document I received for the person.

Katharina was born on December 8, 1813 in Upahl as the youngest child of Johann Joachim KRUSE and Anna Maria FRAHM. The 1819 census shows her living with her family at the same place.

On December 5, 1845 she married Johann Joachim Heinrich MELLAHN in Diedrichshagen. The couple had three children I know of so far between 1847 and 1852.

Following her death, Katharina got laid to rest in Diedrichshagen on January 8, 1881.
