November 23 – Today in my family tree

I was travelling the weekend, therefore I am one day late with this blogpost.

Independently from each other, both George Vancouver on his ship “HMS Discovery” and Lieutenant William Robert Broughton on the “HMS Chatham” discover the Snares Islands south from New Zealand on November 23, 1791.

And on November 23, 1925 Buster Keaton‘s movie “Go West” premieres in the USA.

On my family tree it looks like November 23 was a very popular date to marry. I only have weddings for today.

One is the wedding of my 3rd great grand uncle Joachim Heinrich Hans FREYTAG and his bride Wilhelmine Maria Catharina MELLAHN in Diedrichshagen, Mecklenburg-Schwerin, Germany on November 23, 1888.

Joachim was born September 28, 1841 in Diedrichshagen and received his christening one day later in the Diedrichshagen church. In the same church he received his lutheranian confirmation on March 16, 1856.

The 1867 census of Mecklenburg-Schwerin shows him living with his parents, two brothers, one sister-in-law, one sister and two nephews in one household in Diedrichshagen. In total, he had six siblings.

Joachim died on February 13, 1922 in Diedrichshagen and got laid to rest five days later on February 18, 1922 in Diedrichshagen.

Wilhelmine was born on April 25, 1849 as a fee farmer’s daughter in Upahl, Mecklenburg-Schwerin. She was the second of three children.

I haven’t found her in the censuses yet. Neither 1867 or following her marriage in the ones from 1890, 1900 or 1919.

She died on February 4, 1926 in Upahl and got laid to rest on February 7, 1926 in Diedrichshagen.
