My least favourite census I have worked with so far is the one from 1890 for the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Schwerin.
You wonder why? Well, take a look!
This census is not household based like the one from 1867 but village based. But unfortunately, not like the one from 1819 where all people living in a city or a village were mentioned.
In the 1890 census only the different buildings are stated, here the manor (Herrenhaus), the smithy (Schmiede) and various small cottages (Kathen).
In this example at least the first names of the head of the household in column 2 are given. Sometimes you can read only “farmer Schmidt”. Yeah, that is reeeaaalllyyy helpful..
Column 4 and 5 provide the number of household members divided by gender. And that’s it. That’s all the information there is on the 1890 census.
