November 3 – heading west… a bit

On the anniversary of its discovery by Christofero Colombo 1493 the island Domenica gains its indepence from Great Britain on November 3, 1978.

Canada’s oldest bank, the “Bank of Montreal” opens its first branch in Montreal, Quebec on November 3, 1817.

And on my family tree we are moving away from Diedrichshagen for a day (at least, we’ll see, where we end up tomorrow ;))

We are heading west. Well, at least a bit with about 25 miles.

On November 3, 1811 my 4x great grandparents Catharina Dorothea DAEHN and Franz Joachim Hinrich Christian SCHAPER, a day labourer from Mustin married in Mustin, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.

The couple had five sons and two daughters born between 1812 and 1826.

Catharina died on April 15, 1847 following a stroke. According to her death entry she was 61 years old, giving me the approximate year of birth 1786.

She got laid to rest on the cemetary of Mustin on April 19, 1847.

Unfortunately, I haven’t found any additional data on Franz yet. But all the churchbooks of the parish are stored at the city archive of Ratzeburg. I “just” have to plan my next research vacation back home.

If I would just have the time for all those things on my genealogy-to-do-list…
